Morning, pulled the pup out of hibernation at the weekend, small puddle of oil under the front, looks like its coming from a point joint oil seal, on inspection the pot itself has abit of a wobble to it.
Is it just the inner Bush and seal that needs changing or is there more too it than that? Cheers

Having been in hibernation for many months you are doing well to only have a small puddle of oil :D

It is usually just the bush that needs doing to resolve this issue.

They need to be sized after fitting. If you are having this done at a machine shop, best to take the Pot Joint with you so they can be sized together.

You can buy rebushed covers from people like Guessworks (it's where I got mine, who also sells needle bearing alternatives). But I found that this wasn't the end of it. Even with new bushes the pot joints still had a bit too much slop - took the diff apart and the fibre washers behind the output shafts had broken up. A light diff rebuild and it was a lot better but not perfect as I think the missing fibre washer had led to some wear in the cage/outputs.

Make sure the diff is in tip top condition. Make sure the output shaft is not loose of any wibbles...

Maybe a new diff...eitherway.... a head ache...

fit new bushes and ream to size, note pot joints are meant to be same size but they are not so as spider says do them as matched pair. are you sure it's not from selector seal? that's the common one

Thanks for the replies. I replaced the Selector seal last year at some point but it's visibly coming from the seal in the diff side cover and the pot joint has a wobble.
Have ordered new seals, gaskets and bushes and was planning on stripping it out this weekend, Covid has other plans! Roll on Easter weekend 😊

Reviving this post, since I had a related question. I've seen in forum posts that the rebushed diff covers from Guessworks (http://www.guess-wor...play.htm?id=520) and MiniSpares (https://www.minispar...px|Back to shop) are "pre-reamed to size". Do these covers have to be reamed further to fit the specific pot-joint on my exact Mini, or can they be used universally without further modification? In other words, are these diff covers in most cases "plug-and-play" (with the exception of needing to measure and reset the float in the diff)? Comments in past forum posts seem to indicate so, but the comments from spider and coopertaz above seem to say the opposite.

Thanks in advance!

The only way to know would be to measure the pot joint with a micrometer and ask what size the diff covers are bored out to. I bought new pot joints and fitted them into original diff cover bushes and they were tight so wouldn't turn. If the pot joint's are over standard size 1.25" then you'd be best getting new bushes fitted into your currant diff covers and have them bored on a lathe (or mill).
