Hi everyone! Sorry to disturb, but I almost finish my Mini restoration and I have a big big problem: when I start up the car my engine rev stay very high and when I touch the gas pedal, skyrocketing on very high revs (I have to turn it off to protect the engine). Mine in the past had a light accident on the front, but everything it seems ok. I’ve already replaced the idle valve and many sensors, but nothing change. Any suggestions would be precious, thanks in advance,

Alfio

First thing I would do is check all the vacuum hoses for issues. It wouldn't be unusual for one or two to be perished and letting air in or potentially missing entirely, also check any breather ports are connected correctly. If careful you can use a flammable liquid, such as brake cleaner in a can / pump bottle, squirted around the intake system seams whilst the engine runs and by listening out for engine speed increase you can pinpoint issues. But be careful not to spray it on anything hot or around the HT leads to avoid fire risk.

Check the throttle cable too, might be sticking.

Check the throttle cable too, might be sticking.

Check that there is a slight amount of slack in the cable.

Hopefully no one made adjustments to the throttle body on reinstallation.

Hi guys, sorry for the late but i was ill in the last weeks... so, i've checked all the vacuum hoses and the pedal cable and everything is fine to me... uhmmm one question, could it be the intake valve potentiometer? Because i've tried to disconnect it and the engine jump to 2500 rpm  :ohno: Also i've tried to check the ecu via Rover MEMS fault code but nothing strange error was stored (apart from oil and air temp but the sensors are brand new...) . Thanks in advance!

To rev up you need air.It is leaking somewhere or the throttle is being held open. The MAP sensor reads the vacuum or lack thereof and adds fuel, vroom vroom.Steve..

Hi sonscar... it's strange because if i open the throttle manually, the valve return at closed position free and the engine remain at very high rev for five or six seconds, then, return below 1000 rpm and indeed the car emits a huge amount of grey smoke. I've changed already all the sensors and actuators (apart for the throttle potentiometer and injectors) and all the hoses. Today i've manage to retrive a pdf on how to check the injection components... at this time i think i need to record some readings and return to you asap...

I would be checking all the inlet tract for leaking gaskets/mating faces. How hard is it to plug up the intake to the idle valve?doing so should stop the motor.does the throttle plate close completely every time?is it warped?bushes tired?Injected motors suffer from all the same maladies as carb cars and then the injecting n stuff on top.Be methodical,Steve..

Hi guys! I'm back! :-)

After numerous attempts, plugging pipes and trying to look for leaks, Iìve noticed that if I close the IACV valve inlet (or by excluding it) the car works perfectly.

Now ... I replaced this valve when I bought the car when I noticed the plastic casing was broken (probably during the previous car crash), so the valve is new.

I should do some electrical checks to see if the power supply and signals arriving correctly, but any of you have any experience with this component?

Do you know how to set it up? Thanks in advance as always :-)

Regards
