Hi all please move me in the right topic if wrong...

I have a rover mpi 98 with a fantastic low 33k on the clock ,I am thinking of ripping it out and upgrading the whole engine I.e

1380cc
Swifttune cam
Gearbox refurbished
Better timing chain etc etc

Now because I know the ecu won't tolerate any mods to a point of what I want I was going to buy a vmax scart turbo charge kit ,it comes with a moded program ecu, so i can then have it tuned to the max ,can anyone advise if this set up is OK, any snags ,problems etc

Now any good engine builders near Cumbria who can carry out the boring, refurb etc regards chris

I'd reconsider your engine size. Go next size up, ie 1293cc.

I agree, going to 1380 is expensive and then needs liners if the engine goes bang

Just go 1293. If you're considering boosting it, you need between cylinders 2&3.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe 1380cc can be linered. Maybe I'm out of date?

There's so much improvement with head, gearbox, cam and maybe rocker work, it's a bit superfluous. Unless you're after absolute maximum bhp.

Change the final drive to 3.1, 3.2 or 3.44. That will immediately make her feel faster. Trust me, it'll be a far better drive. Good big valve head. 274i or SW5 cam. 1.5:1 rockers perhaps. Better exhaust.

ECU will be fine. No need to touch the bottom end. You'll love it.
