Hello. Have a 71 1275gt with normal coolant eg antifreeze water mix. None water coolants like Evans life long coolant and other makes are available. Have anyone used anything like these on a classic mini engine before?

Don’t bother it is crap if you actually use the car.

it is 100% glycol and there is very poor at transferring heat. It also requires more energy to move the coolant in the system.

water and a rust inhibitor up to a concentration of 50/50 is your best mix. Over 50/50 and it becomes less efficient at removing the heat and transferring it to the air via the radiator. Yep the same way it is poor at getting the heat it is poor at getting rid of it.

guess what the most common rust inhibitors are? Glycol.

my electric water come with an expected life of X-many hours. But states that if waterless coolant is used there is not expected life run hours. (Cant remember the exact wording).

if you are only going to store the car and drive it onto a trailer for shows and things ie not use it then like silicon brake fluid it is acceptable. But again the service life of each when compared to the normal brake fluid and coolant is no longer. A modern car with a cooling system that has a higher capability to shift heat can manage a poorer coolant.

Thank you. I'll leave well alone as its a recently rebuilt engine. Guess it makes as some of these minis are 50+ years old and still going with right antifreeze water mix.
Thanks again

As Nick said, it's bad news and for the reasons he's mentioned.

A few who have tried it in A Series Engines have all commented how much hotter their engines run and most have gone away from it.

A while back, I saw a video, basically an AD for Evans, showing how an owner with a vintage Ferrari was converting to Evans as he wanted to keep his 40+yrs old irreplaceable machine from overheating damage. I just kept thinking, its been running wonderfully for 40 yrs with the recommended coolant. why on earth would you want to change that track record?
