I pulled the front hub on my ‘92 Rover Mini today and a white plastic spacer dropped out. Can’t seem to find a new one anywhere (except for an S), and I’m wondering if it’s just one of those ‘nice to have’ parts. I’ve cleaned it up, but it’s split and while I’m fairly sure it’ll still do its thing, if it’s a gotta-have part, I’ll continue my search. Thoughts? Thanks.

Spacer? No plastic spacers on the front hub assemble. But there is a first shield. Or it might be something added by someone that is not standard.

pictures would help.

Your Haynes manual does have an exploded view of the hub parts and the correct names of the parts.

is lit like a short  cylindrical tube? or shaped,

Ive seen the " tubesS sitting between the braring and rear real, and the shaped one between the rear seal and shaft as a protector for the seal, iirc thse were on the Ball bearing ty[e normally fitted to metro's. ive never bptherd fitting them.

Just noticed Haynes manual has it as a water shield.

Yes, a water shield.  The inboard seal should be shaped such that the shield clips onto a raised ridge.

New seal kits normally come with them included, and they shouldn't be split.

Originally there was also a spacer that sat between the inboard bearing and the seal, but that is rarely seen these days and can be omitted.
