Hello, I recently changed the coolant in the engine & radiator and ran the engine for 10 minutes with the radiator cleaner in the cooling system with the heater in the fully on position and measured the temp coming out the air vents inside the Mini. The left head side vent measured 33 degrees C and the right hand side vent measured 14.5 degrees C which doesn't seem right to me. I am not sure how the heat flow into the cabinet setup works on the Mini and I will need to research this, however I would keen to know has anyone had this type of thing occur before and what is the best way to check this out to rectify this?

Are you referring to the vents that are directed at the windscreen or the ones at either end of the dash?

If it's the ones at either end of the dash they are not connected to the heater. They work by ram effect by the car moving forward. The left hand side could be warmer because the radiator vents under the left hand wing and could warm the fresh air ducting as it passes through.

Are both fresh air ducts present under the wings?

Thanks for the info - I following this helpful video

The chap measured the temps on the left and right dash air vents. I will check tomorrow if the air ducts are present under the wings which is a good point

Cheers

Just to make things clear: the JDM Mini (assuming you have the original dash or the original AC vents below the glove compartment) has a total of 5 vents(!). The ones at either side of the car only blows fresh air from outside. The middle 2 vents (or the vents below the glove compartment) is the air vents for the AC system, so should blow cold air when the AC is in operation. The final vent is your heater blower vent, controlled by the lever below the instrument switches (directed to Car, Windscreen, or Off) and has 2 position : On or OFF.

The left-most side vent will usually gives hotter air when the car is in motion because of the position of the radiator. Both sides will only blow air when the car is moving because they are unassisted. To force fresh air into the car, you normally push the heater cable fully in, select the lever to Car or Screen position and turn the blower ON.

The AC works separately from the fresh air vents and the heater system. Cold air will only blows from the 2 center vents and it is not connected to the other vents.
