My bonnet keeps popping up on the motorway, and to be honest, it's getting annoying now!

I have an internal release kit, and I think the cable's a bit worse for wear as the casing looks damaged. Is it an easy job to just buy a new kit and fit it?

On the other hand, is there anything along the lines of bonnet pins or straps, that dont look rubbish?

i dont think springs look bad at all when secured to some grill buttons. have u tried lowering your bonnet locking pin?? just undoo the lock nut inside the spring and unscrew the pin a little then lock it all up again!!

I've had this problem on a few Mini's i've owned and I believe that if the bonnets popping up, then that generally means it needs adjusting so try refitting the bonnet for a start. Loosen the 4 securing nuts and re-position it until it fits snug, but also loosen the slam panel bonnet catch and slitghly move this one way or the other.

Then after your happy that it all looks and fits snug, try lifting the bonnet with some light force to see if it still pops.

If it doesn't then take it for a road test and hopefully you've got it sorted!

if you slacken the bonnet pin that will make the front bonnet gap wider.
as taffy says first make sure the bonnet gaps are good at the back and sides first, then adjust the bonnet catch so that the pin goes in straight and does not pull the bonnet over to one side, then adjust the pin up or down so that the bonnet sits correct height and does not move up and down, its a fidley process.
make sure the bonnet safety catch is lubricate so that if the bonnet flys up again it will stop it from flying right up and banging on the roof. lol

Hmm... yes if you're lucky to have a safety catch! I was once driving across a cobblestone parking lot and heard a metal clang as if something fell off. So I parked the car and as we were walking back, found my safety catch in the middle of the lot. So I put it on my keyring and off we went to get pissed. A week later driving on the motorway *Bang caboom* bonnet flies up, smacks against windscreen. Driving blind at 70mph in rush hour traffic is not fun!! At least I was already driving ace-ventura style since it was raining, so my vision was only partially obscured.

Now I have bonnet straps lol
