Hi,

This has probably come up before, but I’m having difficulties getting the clevis pin to move so I can replace a leaking clutch master cylinder.

the split pin is out but the clevis pin won’t budge even with liberal applications of plus gas.

Any tips please?

Is there any way to get better access or fashion a tool of some sort?

Thanks

Ian

It will be well worn so will have a step or more worn in it.

you are going to have to jiggle it up and down and around to get it out over the steps. You will need a new one and the yoke on the MC is likely going to need replacing.

if not as above then grind the head off and punch it in the other direction while someone wiggles the pedal?

I recently had similar with the brake pedal clevis pin on my auto clubman.... Due to space limits under the dash, I couldn't really get any leverage on the clevis pin itself, so I resorted to lifting the master cylinder enough off the bulkhead to be able to get a reciprocating saw blade onto the master cylinder shaft to cut it free.  I then was able to remove the pedal assembly and free the clevis pin with heat on the bench.   (I was needing to replace the brake master anyway!)

I'm not sure if you can lift the master cylinder far enough upwards but there is a circlip that holds the shaft into the bottom of the master cylinder.

It won't solve your problem but could give a bit more play enabling you to remove the clevis pin.

A quick update!

Finally got the pedal out! Had to remove the heater to get better access, then managed to use a deemed inside the engine bay to grind the master cylinder shaft! Just about doable.

Pin was properly wedged in the pedal with time soaked in clutch fluid not helping!

New master cylinder and fittings ordered!

Thanks everyone for the tips!

I removed both master cylinders last night and after removing the brake cylinder I got access from the top for the clutch.
The pin on mine was corroded too but I managed to get it moving and 2 hours later it was out.
Ive now got the hassle of the 2 shear bolts holding the pedal box in...sigh!
