On Sunday I marshalled on the Debden Targa Rally. My son was driving his Mk.2 Escort RS2000 with my grandson navigating.

 

I was delighted to see just one Mini entered. It was a 1380 driven by Robert Milligan. This Mini was in beautiful condition, sounded great and finished in the top 25, I believe -  a great result considering the level of opposotion. Well done Robert, I enjoyed meeting you.

 

The rally itself was great and my son and grandson finished in 5th place, despite it being only my grandson's second ever rally. 

 

We need more Minis out on these Targa rallies. They are a lot of fun, very friendly and not too demanding on car, driver or navigator.

Bob drives his mini on autosolos too and is rapid!! Sometimes get fastest time of the day in it.

Cooperman how rough were the roads? I would love to give it a go in the mini but am a bit worried about damaging it! I've marshaled at Bramley Targa and that looked OK just very muddy.

The roads were generally smooth tarmac or loose gravel.
A sump guard is always advisable as is running the brake, fuel and battery lines inside the car.
Apart from that you just need some better brake pads and good tyres.
Go on, give it a go! You know you want to.

My last post disappeared for some reason. Yep the car has all those things, just need to bite the bullet really.

What brake pads would you recommend for 7.5" Cooper S? Mine need a bit of a overhaul.

The only pads I use with 7.5" discs are the Carbon-Metallic ones as sold by Mini Spares. They are simply superb for rallying.
