So i recently got a powerspark electronic ignition kit for my classic mini, Its a 1275 with a 25D distributor ( austin 1300 engine, with low cr, however its got a mg metro head with the slightly bigger valves and stage 1 kit installed). I first got the kit a week ago installed as per the instructions red to positive, black to negative side of the coil and nothing connected to the negative side of the coil. and couldn't get any spark out of it. After speaking to simon at powerspark ( who was extremely helpful ) we narrowed it down to a faulty module. He immediately sent out a new module that he tested himself. Yesterday i installed everything once again as per the instructions and i still couldn't get any spark. The car has new plugs, ht leads, distributor cap and also used the new rotor arm that came with the kit. I am honestly stumped and have no idea whats happening. The car also works perfectly with the points system installed so i doubt its something related to wiring, or at least i'd like ti think so. Any ideas ?

A 25D distributor suggests you have an older car with positive earth, either that or Simon thinks you have. If the unit is fitted positive earth when it is a negative earth car, or vice versa, it will blow it instantly.

It's a negative earth car for sure. Before it had a 998 and 45d distributor and when swapping to this 1275 everything went together the same way as no changes were done to the wiring. Also made sure to order the negative earth kit when ordering.

does the distributor need to be earthed? or if it earths at adjuster bolt, check not newly painted etc.

also not sure if applies but i thought at least earlier versions had an earth wire ( braided) attached to contact breaker plate often with flimsy soldering????    probably no help sorry , just chucking out ideas for you to consider

No worries, anythiing that makes i will try at this point as i have run out of ideas. The small earthing wire inside seams to be in good condition and also works perfectly with the points installed.

You can wire it up on the bench with the dizzy, a battery and a spark plug. Google for how-to vids
