I recently had a fault with my 2000 year MPI Mini when it would cut out when accelerating. The fault was traced to the ECU. This was removed and sent away for testing / refurbishment at ATC drivetrain but returned when they said that it was faulty but they could not fix / refurbish it.

1. Does anyone know where I can get my ECU part No MKC104292 refurbished ?

2. Does anyone know where I can get a spare second hand ECU No MKC104292?

3. Has anyone fitted a new (aftermarket) ECU to their MPI Mini with success. Maybe from Japan?

4. I could fit a carb to the MPI Mini but run into the emissions problem at the next MOT.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I had my ecu repaired a few years ago now, stepper motor drivers no working.  I think I used these guys, who were very efficient.

Thanks for the feedback.

I spoke to ECU Technologies and they said they can help and my ECU is currently on its way to them for testing and repair.

I also spoke to Specialist Components and they could provide me with a new ECU kit if the repair on my existing unit was not possible.

Another possible replacement for my ECU was a Emerald K6 unit supplied by Emerald. Megasquirt and Megajolt also say the could supply a new ECU that would get me up and running.

When they say get you up and running do they mean it will plug into your existing car as a straight replacement and start and drive exactly as per factory?Quite likely not as the Rover ECU is very specialised. If yours is not repairable ask them the question"is it plug and play?"Just a thought and you may already know this,Steve..

I would say none of the aftermarket ECUs are "Plug and Play."

They might get you running, but tuning them to the point of a Rover MEMS 2J will take some work.

Megajolt is ignition only and only part of the equation. The equivalent ECU is Microsquirt or Megasquirt.

How was the fault traced to the original ECU? Was a known good ECU swapped in and coded to the alarm ECU and tried under the same conditions?

I was asking not to question the procedure, but to add to my knowledge. If ECU tech said it was bad, then that leaves few options. Also curious what their diagnosis was.

They do show up on Ebay, but none right now:

This one is from a month ago. But again there is little that can be done to check its functions. If you can get the pair, MEMS 2J and 5AS with fobs then you would have a working set. If you can only get the MEMS 2J then it would have to be paired with the 5As and the fobs.

I have purchased from him before. He regularly breaks later cars.
