When I was refurbishing an Australian Moke I could not find a compatable arrangement from any of the switches that were available for the "MINI". The trouble I had was that the key was trapped in the lock and nothing would turn. This problem was caused because the Moke had sat outside for about ten years open to the elements. I continually soaked the switch with release fluid during the refurbishment and after several months it started to move and eventually I could turn it and remove the key.

I did try to strip the lock to its component pieces once it was free but could not see how it came apart, and because no alternative units seemed to be available I left well alone. The operation was not very crisp, I suspected the springs that work the lands had lost some of their tension, but it was good enough to be servicable. It was purely a mechanical fault, luckily the electrical side operated as required. Once it started to turn I could not understand how the key would not come out of the lock until I discovered that the key had to be pushed down and then turned to free it.

There will i have no doubt be some switches lying in a box at the back of someones workshop, but it is finding one that is the problem.
