On bog standard Rover Minilight style alloys you should fit 3 - 5mm spacers with longer studs.
There are plenty of people that don`t but the clearance is too close around the rear shocks as you have to allow for the flex in the tyres side wall and if you have any shock wider than a KYB it will be rubbing on the tyre instantly.

Depending on your caster, ride height or front end alignment you may have the wider front tyres rub the front edge of the wheel arch on full lock but it`s not a big deal and you may be able to space it out.
