Hiya,

My 1993 SPI cooper is due some new tyres. It currently has stock tyres on 155/70/R12.

Will the Yoko A539 165/65/R12 fit without spacers. Or will it need a 3mm space? Longer nuts?

Ive searched the forum without a concrete answer.

Thanks!

Will fit perfectly, they fit my 1993 sprite fine BUT we had to fit a 5mm spacer to both rear wheels as the shocker would rub on the tyre when cornering hard.

I use 6x 12 rims, revolution and JBW mini lite type.

Did you use a 5mm spacer without extending the wheel bolts?

I didn't feel I needed to, it all depends on what wheel nuts you are using

On bog standard Rover Minilight style alloys you should fit 3 - 5mm spacers with longer studs.

There are plenty of people that don`t but the clearance is too close around the rear shocks as you have to allow for the flex in the tyres side wall and if you have any shock wider than a KYB it will be rubbing on the tyre instantly.

Here`s an old Cooper garages leaflet showing the spacer kit as part of the wider tyre package

https://www.ebay.co....JkAAOSwFdNc7Wx4

Depending on your caster, ride height or front end alignment you may have the wider front tyres rub the front edge of the wheel arch on full lock but it`s not a big deal and you may be able to space it out.
