Sorry to post a problem right off after becoming a member but...

No Low Beam Headlights only High Beam Flash (on pull back).

I have a 1982 Austin Mini 998.

Extra Drive lihjts were installed before I got it and were not hooked up, just mounted and wired but not plugged in.

At this point the lights worked fine.

I plugged them in and now no low beam headlights and only highs on the pull back (flash).

4 block fuses look good.

Are there inline fuses on my 998?

Any ideas?

Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Had the same problem (approaching traffic REALLY liked me!). The contacts inside the turn signal switch, 13h7779, were fried. Replaced it, problem solved. Hope that this helps.

Head light switch may be frazzled? Might be something to do with the way the additional lights have been wired but hard to diagnose remotely.

That'll just be your Mini's way of getting you to join, you're both welcome.

If it's a genuine '82 car, always questionable with imports to the US.

It is very likely the light rocker switch above the heater. There's a blue wire that runs from it to the indicator stalk that sometimes fatigues and falls off the stalk. You could pop the switch out and hotwire blue to brown on the connector block for diagnosis.

Cars of that age don't have fuses on the headlights. On later models each side is fused independently with inline fuses and there may be a pink dim-dip relay that can also cause problems like you describe. Those cars should have a resistor & heatsink on the bulkhead near radiator
