Greetings everyone,

I am a new owner of what I believe is a 1996 mk6 SPI.  I currently live in Germany and before I can register it with the US ARMY system I need to repair a few rust areas. Pictures attached. I am fairly certain that I have 3 of the pieces figured out.  The parts that I am having trouble identifying deal with the rear RH side of the wheel area.  I am pretty sure that I need to replace the front panel, front LH inner wing, and the RH step sill with these part numbers.

Connor Phillips from a facebook forum told me that it was the rear quarter and rear quarter closing plate.  I cant find parts listed like that.  Not that I don't trust his expertise, but while doing a parts and picture search I don't have the confidence to accurately pinpoint those part numbers.  Can someone assist me with locating the rusted parts so that I can confirm or inform the body shop that will be preforming the work.  I am not skilled nor possess the tools to do body work so I will be outsourcing locally.  I think it would be best to replace rather than repair for the long terms sake.

Appreciate all input.

Brian

The 'bumper like part' described in your link above and the bottom left photo, which attach to the inner wing panels, usually come with the new front panel assembly, see photo in link below:-

mak01uk - thanks I thought so which is why I listed ASJ36002 P/N.  Since that little wingliet that attaches to the L/H inner wing and they both have holes in them, I was told by a German mechanic that inspected it said it would not pass and be considered road worthy so will need to be replaced or professionally repaired.  I think replacement would be the easiest.

What you got from info is right, it seems the rear quarter panel is rusted through:

and usually, in this area, the closing panel is also shot. You can also see it from inside the companion bin.

But this small part may be more work to be changed, it's welded to the rear wheel well, floor, rear quarter and rear seat/floor

I agree that sometimes replacement of entire panels is the way to go there is a place for localised repair. These repairs could easily be done in with using sheet steel formed with hand tools and welded in with little dismantling, probably a good weekends work each side.Do you want a project?or would you like to be driving a soundly repaired car.I would not be buying any parts for that rust, this is only my opinion,Steve..

Thank you for the confirmation.  This will help my local body shop with the repairs.  The rest of the car is in decent shape, but wanted to be sure with what work needed to be done.  Thanks again for keeping me on the right track.

Thank you for your response. This car was an impulse buy for the wife and will eventually turn into a project during the winter months.  Right now I just want to get the ulgy parts taken care of then approach the entire restoration one section at a time until complete. Thank you again for helping me out.
