Hi everyone,

Some toerags tried to steal my Mini City last night and in the process, poured an entire 5L can of engine oil over the seats.

Why they did this, we may never know, but I was hoping that someone here might be able to answer a different question: How hard is this going to be for me to get out and does anyone have any tips? They are the original 1990 vinyl and fabric seats.

I am armed with one of those sucky carpet cleaner devices.

Many thanks in advance...

You can initially try mixing Spray Nine into your carpet extractor  where you would put in the cleaning chemical. Spray Nine is quite good at cleaning oil up.

Firstly, I am sorry this has happen to you and take comfort in the fact the Mini didn't get taken. I wonder if the only answer is to take the covers of the seats clean them separately maybe hand wash them  in cool soapy water and change any sponge that is soaked in oil as I don't think all the cleaning in the world will get it out, but you might be lucky. I do think the fabric needs to come off the seats to stand a good chance of cleaning it up properly.

Sorry to hear you've had this setback.

When I wanted my front seats cleaned a while back, I tried everything.

In the end whipped them both out and took them to a professional upholstery and carpet cleaners.

They used a hefty steam cleaner and the results were very good.

If you could find a local cleaner I'm sure they would advise you.

Thanks everyone for the helpful tips - I will try all of them! I do think we might end up replacing the sponge as a fair bit has soaked in and to be honest, it probably needed replacing soon anyway.

Next I need to find a steering wheel...
