Or something better for an around town driver. No track days, but I enjoy a spirited Sunday drive on the curvy roads.

I have red dots, I really love them. If your cones are in need of replacement all of the suggestions above will be an improvement in my opinion. Not everyone's butt sensors are sensitive enough to spot the differences between them ;)

You do need hi-Los turned in all the way to get them to stock ride hight, that's my experience anyway.

All the way in, as in highest ride height setting? I’m looking at the Adjusta Ride set from Minisport to go along with the new cones. I’ll have KYB gas-a-just shocks

No, as in the lowest. My front hi-los are as short as they can go and than I have about stock ride hight. I dont want to go lower anyway, but if you do you might need to modify the hi-Los. There are some topics covering this.

This is the only real downside I can think of, the ride quality is just lovely. Some people end up with a car that sits slightly to high for their liking, if you want to avoid this the red dots might not be the best choise. Or if you are set on using them you could modify the hi-los before fitting them to make sure you can get low enough.

I've heard some people go for reds on the front and standards on the rear?

OK, so now I'm between originals and Evos. leaning towards Evos.

Just out of curiosity. ...has anyone ever fitted yellow spots to a road car?
I once had a '74 clubman with worn cones, it was on its arse with no suspension movement at all and it handled amazingly.
Makes me wonder if yellows will be similar.

It appears that hilos have a different lip profile compared to the front standard trumpets which will automatically stiffen and raise the front suspension by bearing on a greater diameter of cone.  The profile does however match the rear trumpet.

Details on red, yellow, evo, etc:

Seems there's some ambiguity at Mini Spares as to whether the Evo or Red Spot cones ride smoother...
