Hi Mini lovers

i have problem with the throttle/accelerator, it is extremely sticky. now, i have changed the accelerator cable, but that was no help too. im thinking maybe the return spring has gone weak? is there anything you can help with diagnosing?

i have submitted 2 video links that i recorded of it to show the horrid noise and rough feeling that the throttle has.

thanks in advance- Emil

I'd have a look at the pedal itself. That's a long time for a simple bit of rod turning in a narrow, stamped plate.

......oh, welcome to TMF too  :P

Hi Emil,

You could disconnect the throttle cable from the carb and make sure the carb lever and spindle move freely and also check the return spring is strong. It does sound like an issue with the throttle cable where it passes through the bulk head though judging by the sound!

Best regards, Steve.

The cable can become an earth if you lose the earth strap connection in the engine bay
It feels very notchy as the cable heats up and melts the plastic sheath
Good luck

Good point Andy!

I have that happen on an Austin 1100. The cable cable used to glow red-hot trying to pass the starter motor current back to earth if the earth cable is broken. That certainly messed up my throttle cable!

Cheers, Steve.
