Never fitted bearings before, I’ve got some Timken rear bearings to fit and some Timken grease, how much grease do you pack into the bearings. I seem to remember reading a guide on here by Moke spider but for the life of me I can’t find it.

While this pinned topic is for front hubs and wheel bearings, the basic principals and Timken's advice remains the same.

You can find it in FAQ;-

Actually I am still confused by the definition of "1/3 to 1/2 full" because there is basically no space between the bearings and races, except the little space outside the spacer and under the seal. When I did the bearings last month I just watch Timken's youtube video and simulate how they do it with the shown amount of grease.

If you follow the video on greasing it will be good (pack inner races with grease, full under the roller retaining cage and put a smear on the outer races in the hub)

However please note this video shows bearings without centre spacers so PLEASE do not follow the bit after greasing about tightening up and backing off the axle nut.

Bearings with spacers (or extended inner races in place of spacers as per the latest design of mini rear wheel bearings) are designed to be tightened to the recommended torque setting.

I made a mistake not to buy the Timken bearings and when I tightened the nut to 82Nm hub was locked. Some suggest to back off till the hub spins freely but I didn't. Instead I put three 0.1 mm shims in between the inner and outer bearings and it works fine so far.
