To make it look as factory finish you might have to promote some rust on edges and some seams, misalign some panels and raise the suspension until you can put your head under the arches.I think the paint was a semi gloss that only makers seem to get.Just jesting,Steve..

What did 6ou go with for this?

Did you rubb it all down to metal or blast it? under coat it at all?

Where did you get your paint from

Looking at por15 from frost at the moment..

Thanks.

My experience of POR 15 was very poor. The pre treatment is onerous and the final finish peeled off in strips shortly after.I now use Jotun paints, the drawback being you have to buy five litres.I have found them extremely surface tolerant and very hard wearing.Steve..

Had a similar experience, at the time i put it down to poor surface prep by me but others have said the same. it just flakes off.  I went back to hammerite!

I took probably a totally different approach and only time will tell how well it stands up I guess but I got them blasted, used hammerite red oxide primer and then just some black chassis paint which has kind of an enamel like surface finish (in all honesty not sure what it is made of) it seems really strong judging by me moving it around and dinging against the bench etc (whoops) both done with a brush

I did do a bit of hammerite black spray paint into the various hard to reach places before doing the chassis paint (and once it's fitted I will waxoyl into all the gaps as well especially the rear one which has more cavities and isn't so well protected by the standard mini coating of engine oil)

They look brand new pretty much and even if it does chip there will be the red oxide underneath until it gets a touch up

I was happy with it but again time will tell in terms of how well protected it is

One downside is where the paints are both quite thick I will have to run taps through the various threaded holes to clean them out before assembly but it's not a major drama

i was convinced by all the blurb but my experience was the same. Early on in my project I did lots of bits like arms, hubs etc. in Por15. Project the took far longer than expected and these parts sat in boxes. When i unboxed the paint was peeling off, parts were rusting through. Everything got stripped and started again. I followed the prep instructions using all their products but obviously not well enough. In the end i got everything done in 2k epoxy primer and seems to have worked pretty well, only time will tell

Same experience with POR-15, I did think it was me being lazy at the preparation stage but clearly not alone!

I now use Eastwood Chassis Black on anything small but bigger stuff goes to be powder coated. The powder coater I use charges £75 to blast, zinc coat, and powder coat a subframe, it's not worth my time messing about getting it blasted off to then paint it myself and not do as a good a job.
