Car is a 2000 MPI and drives fine with very light throttle. As soon as you apply half throttle the car stumbles and basically will not accelerate any further until you lift the accelerator pedal back to a light Throttle. Max speed is no effected just takes a long time and long road. Does any one have any ideas would could be wrong or is this a sensor problem. Car runs on 98 octane fuel.

How old are the spark plugs and leads?

Unless new, I'd replace them.

Avoid fake plugs.

Check for an air leak around the inlet manifold / throttle body

Spark plugs are new leads are probably original. Will replace, and check inlet side for any leaks.  Feels more throttle related.

When accelerator pedal is pressed, hard, required HT voltage rises dramatically, exposing any shortcomings in the delivery system.
