Brake Servo No Releasing

Best Answer cmonson , 01 August 2022 - 03:52 PM

Not enough free play in the brake rod.If the port in the master is not uncovered when the pedal returns it holds pressure in the system.Steve..

I think I have it fixed.  I adjusted the rod that comes out of the back of the booster itself.  Just loosened the nut and backed it off about 2 full turns and then re-tightened the nut.

The brake pedal still feels really good and the front calipers don't seem to be hanging up any more.

The only thing that I needed to move was the relay pack.  Pretty simple adjustment to make.

Occasionally my front calipers seem to stay on a little.  Still drivable.  But put the car in neutral to let it roll and it will come to a stop very quickly on its own.
When this happens the pedal is also very high and very stiff.
When I jack the car up both front wheels are hard to turn

Everything in the brake system (with the exception of the front calipers) is only a year old.

I had this issue a few years ago.  Before the brake system was rebuilt.
The exception was that it happened within the first few miles of driving and the front calipers would just about seize up.  I found that if I pulled the vacuum line to the servo everything released.
Currently the issue happens randomly and not as severe.  Sometimes it stops doing it and releases on its own.

Would this be a brake booster issue?
Could it be a bad brake limiter valve?

If you experienced this issue before what was the fix, as it may point you in the right direction to repair now ?.

It seemed to go away when I replaced the booster itself.

Have you had a look at the pistons?

It could be they are not retracting due to rust. Not a difficult job to rectify.

Good luck

I had a similar issue with a clutch, it turned out to be collapsed / collapsing internal hose, though the outside looked good.and in perfect condition.

I assume you have replaced all the hoses, but is one "twisted" even a little bit?
