Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a DAM2922 Primary Gear and a DAM8888 Primary Gear, which was the replacement part from I believe in 1979, and why was this change over done?

Regards Paddy

I've not heard or seen a DAM2922 nor can I find a reference to one, not to say they don't exist.

There was a few before this gear, but they were 24 tooth types, the 22A1493 being the 24 tooth type before they went to the (so called) A+ Drop Gears and the DAM8888, which has finer teeth and 29 of them. The 22A1493 went in to production about 1963-ish and carried through to mid - late in 1979.

Hi Spider

The Dam2922 has 29 cross cut teeth and from the research I have done the DAM8888 replaced it i but cannot find out why this was done.

I agree with Designers comments above. I can find reference to it, and the fact it was repalced around 1979 but no idea why or indeed what the difference between the two were.

I dug down and found the DAM2922. I know I have one of these in an old engine. Off hand, I can't recall any material difference between that and the later type.

Actually,,, thinking more about it, I have a few NOS DAM2922's.

When I get back home in about a week, I'll have a look.

Hopefully the front and rear bushes are both of the correct material in DAM2922 and not this Silicone Bronze rubbish.

The bushes were the same.

The factory never used Silicon Bronze.
