While showing other. Mini owners my led lights on the car, it was discovered my brake lights only operate with engine running. If key is in ign on position, engine off, then brake pedal does not active brake lights, yet all other lights work fine, including red tail lights. So if engine were to quit while driving, i'll have no brake lights as I pull over

There is a high mount led third brake light mounted and it also is on only if engine is running and pedel depressed.

Any suggestions on what is going on?

Will be something to do with your wiring. They should work with ignition on.

Sounds like the feed to your brake pedal switch is somehow coming from the alternator side of the starter solenoid.

It's only when the engine is running that the alternator will be providing the power.

I'd be tracing the wires back to see where the feed is from - it should be coming from the fusebox.
