Hi everyone,

I am reconditioning a gearbox - should be from an SPI - and switching from 3,1 diff to 3,44.

Currently the box has a 7/17 pinion and spindle drive for the speedo.

I want to build the box later in my car which has a 140kph smith center speedo (tpk 800) and will be on 145/10 wheels. Maybe later on 165/70/10 but this does not make a  difference.

According to Guessworks website I need a 6/17 worm and pinion ratio.

Can I use the 17 I already have and buy a 6 teeth worm? Do the gears match together? Or do I need to buy a complete 6/17 matching drive?

the 7/17 combination would be far off the real speed...

Thanks

Gilles

I have in the past with no issues.

Thanks for the answers.

I just saw while surfing on Minispares (that may be expensive...) this chart below the page which explains everything.

The pinion 22A1881 has been used pretty often paired with 6 and 7 spindles, for diff ratios 2,95; 3,1; 3,44 and 3,76.

And Minispares says although it's for some pinion/spindle ratios not the best, they would work. This confirms Spider's sayings :)

So a 6 teeth spindle it will be.

Cheers

Gilles
