Hey.

So, specs:

Classic Mini with and A+ Metro 1275 ( non turbo) KN cone filter(new), RC40 exchaust and lucas 65dm4 dizzy(old)  HIF44 carb(BDK needle)  Standard engine/head. Just set the timing at 11(vac disconnected, 1000rpm) the alternator is also fairly new.

Went like a charm for 10k and then it stopped. Got it running after some minutes and after shutting down the engine at home it did not want to start. If it started it was barely running but with some RPM(2000+) it would run.Started checking: Ignition was ok, dont remember the coil type but measures 1ohm across(nothing connected) Checked the fuel and the glas filter barely had fuel in it. Checked the fuel pressure from the pump and that was good. Disconnected the vacuum/breather hoses to check for leaks etc, could not find any (tried with propane gas around the carb when running, no increase in rpm)

And then it  magically started. Runs ok, but the rpm fluctuates.Mostly noticeable on idle(varies with 150) but i can feel it while driving. Turning on the lights also affects the rpm with about (200) downwards. ( i guess this has to do with the load).

I bought the carb unused from a private owner so my first though is checking the float etc which i did not think of doing since it was listed "new" and also looked new. I have been trying to find the right needle, looks like either BDK or BDL will do the job. Is it possible to break something inside the carb while adjusting mixture etc?

Im thinking that the carb is the issue but any advice on where to start would be awesome. Would the wrong valve clearance cause this issue? Set it to 12thou.
