Hi all,
Does anyone know anything about upols acid 8 etch primer?
I'm using it to protect my cars panels as I'm repairing and preparing them.
I've just looked on the upol site and there's a video in French that says attention, do not over paint acid 8 with epoxy primer or add seem sealer on top of it either.
There doesn't seem to be a video on the English version of their site.

Any views?

Pete.

Oh come on Pete;  call me cynical, but do you honestly believe that the French would allow an English version through their internet filter ?

the Best to use is definetly RAPTOR Primer EPOXY, i have used on a car living on the sea side, and after 5 years, nothing moved.

Easy to put, and ******* resistant

Some paint manufacturers do not recommend the use of acid etch primers as the acid can affect topcoat finish, apparently  the acid can bleed through. Normally acid etch is used where there is difficulty with paint adhesion to the substrate, aluminium, GPR or galvanized metal. With your clean repaired/prepared steel surface a good epoxy primer is maybe the best option. The epoxy paint gives a good inert surface capable of being overcoated with almost all topcoats.

Remember the epoxy is not a paint and forget, six months is a reasonable time before it needs overcoating.

Etch primer is basically just an adhesion promoter for bare steel/aluminium.It should be overcoated with a primer filler ....1k ones usually after about half an hour.
Never spray epoxy over etch or use body filler over etch.
Epoxy is a better product than etch and you can also use body filler over it,after it's cured and been keyed

I can thoroughly recommend Octoral P131 Primer Surfacer after Ben_O put me onto it.

Straight onto bare metal, acts as a etch / filler primer. Not cheap, its 2K so associated protection required.

This is a professional based product as i found out when i ordered mine from Brighton Autopaint prior to painting Paddy.

Are you sure ?
I've read the Tds and it says use over PRIMED bare steel or aluminium.

Thanks for everyone's input. I also contacted upol and they said the same as your replies.
I have removed the etch and will be applying epoxy to the bare metal.
