Hi I’ve just bought new rims 13x 6 which are wider than my old set. What sized tyres would you recommend.
Thanks I’m anticipation Dave👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What do you have on the car now? My preference would be 185s ... I've got a set of 6" rims with 165s and they look too narrow.

But it's not just the width .. you need to adjust the profile down to match the diameter of the original tyres or your speedo/odometer are going to be out.

175/50 x 13 is the usual size for 6 x 13 rims on a Mini, same as a factory spec Sportpack MPi Mini.

Yokohama 175/50 x 13 tubeless radial tyre for Mini models with 6 x 13 inch wheels:-

Hi thanks everyone, clearly I know nothing about measuring rims as I measured my old rims with a tape 13 inch diameter 6 inches wide but then got confused by the tyre size which was 145/70R12. In for a penny and all that, so I went ahead ordered the 13/6 rims only to discover yesterday that they’re an inch bigger each way hence my question. Now I need four new tyres!!!
Hi my names Dave and clearly I’m an idiot!
You live and learn, I’ve only had my mini 20 years so I suppose I can put it down to being a newbie?
Thanks for your help so far, happy to hear your thoughts both on tyres and me being dim🤔😂😂

To confirm, you have 12" wheels? 165s should fit well.

The best thing to do is take it on the chin and send the 13 x 6" wheels back.

You will most certainly have to cut the front wings for clearance on full lock, modify the steering rack to reduce the lock available so it doesn`t scrub the inside arch and space out the rear with spacers and new studs.

All this and your car will feel a bit vague, tramline on crap roads and generally be worst off in every aspect except maybe the looks department.

Form over function in my opinion

Hi just to clarify my old wheels on the car are 12 s and the ones I’ve bought are 6/13. I’m beginning to think I maybe should send them back and order a smaller size.

Yes this is exactly what I was concerned about, I don’t want to be cutting anything out or altering any geometry. I’m beginning to think returning them would be the best bet. I’ll need to speak to mini sport and see what they say.

Best thing is to send them back.

The 13" wheel is not as good as a 12" in terms of ride, road-holding, handling and general 'feel'.

Then a 165/60 x 12 will give good results.

With a 13" wheel you are really stuck with a 175/50 x 13. To go wider you would need a 185/40 x 13 and the only tyre I can find in that size is a full-on racing slick and they are not road legal.

If going to a 175 width tyre on a 6" wide rim you would need to cut the wheel arches on the front wings to get tyre width clearance as well as raising the ride height a bit for the road to get some better suspension compliance with the low profile tyres.
