A big turnout of BMW MINI's of all types, from standard, mild & extreme modified, custom, etc, despite there being no MINI races on the track this year....the sunshine brought out the crowds so I would think Brands Hatch and the traders were happy with the numbers through the gate.

The BMW MINI has been around for over 20 years, the early Rover designed R50 & R53 MINIs are moving into classic status now, so a whole generation has grown up around them and they are now affordable at all levels. Inevitably with classic Minis now being expensive to buy and impractical for most younger owners with no practical skills to own as a daily driver, things are changing.....not much you can do about that other than support events and turn up in a classic Mini to increase the numbers on show! However if the BMW MINIs had not been there on Sunday some would probably be complaining the event was quiet and poorly attended.....
Interesting to see Mini Magazine now devotes a few extra pages at the back of the mag each month to feature R50/R53 MINI's now it is an affordable modern classic compared to most classic Minis.

Those are great thanks for sharing.
The blue flip bodied mini (and the one after) look like ones I remember from ‘Street Machine’ magazine years back, I’m guessing they’re the same ones?

I know this is a personal opinion but to me that car is a prime example as to why classic mini owners and Bini owners are so different on the whole, the car ( and I use the term loosely) looks like a 5 year old kids doodle, every proportion that can be wrong is wrong, the scrub radius with those wheels must be horrendous, the steering must be total cack, the whole thing smacks of a kid in a candy store, ' ooh ill have one of those 2 of those etc etc, no doubt it also has a 100000000 watt sound system which only plays The Vega Boys, I presume he's gone for the drift look which would be interesting in a FWD car, it reminds me of the 70's custom car boom when people used to fit fake zoomies in the hope people would believe the car had a V8 instead of a poxy weezing 4 banger. I'm so glad I was young when I was, performance was everything, it make it go faster, stop better and go round corners quicker ( unless you were a saddo)

But to be fair the vast majority of MINIs displayed were not that extreme (see examples below) and there were also plenty of what you might think were very extreme modified/customised classic Minis (also see below) which may not have been to yours or my 'oldies' tastes but all contributed to a varied show for the paying public. I posted a very small selection of cars with examples from the factory standard 'purist' enthusiasts to the wild custom modified and long may that variety continue in the enthusiast scene for both Minis and MINI's. It would be a very boring world if everyone liked the same thing and turned up in factory standard cars or only with 'approved' period modifications ticked. Many classic Minis were modified to some degree back in the 1960/70's, and mostly not to the show standards you often see today with expensive reproduction 'period' accessories like Rosepetal alloys, etc.

Just FYI, it's on air suspension, so it raises up as soon as he starts it. I know the owner Keith quite well, he also has a concourse MPI that used to win the modified class at L2B every year. I do understand where you're coming from, and some of it isn't to my taste. That being said though, all the mods here are current trends of the modified car shows which which is what the car was built for. I've said this before, but personally I feel the classic Mini scene could do with a bit of creativity like this, and is why I get so much flack for my own car. (I own the black classic with 'purist' on the plates pictured above).
