Hi all!

Does anyone know the minimum height that the Minispares HILOs can be set to, or who makes a “HILO” that has the shortest height?

I have fitted some red spot cones and wound the current adjustable cones (They came with the car 20+ years ago, but I think they are the non genuine ones that Minispares sell) down to their minimum height, approx 75mm, but the front of the car still seems way too high!

Currently the engine isn’t in, but the red spots have been fitted for about 18 months and I’m currently in 12” wheels, but I might be going to 10” wheels.

How much would the cones compress with the engine in? The current height from the ground to the sill lip is 11” at the front, so it still needs to come down a bit!

Cheers all!

Nic

You have to bare in mind your engine (if A series) will be a couple hundred kg, so will drop the fron a fair amount. I'd personally wait until you get the engine in, then start adjusting.

Just my thoughts.

That’s because you fitted red sports. They are taller than standard and are suited for cars needing more travel like a rally car.

have your current adjustable trumpets machined. You will need any new ones ma hinted as well. I think it is recommended either on here or on the MiniSpares site.

From the MiniSpares web page

If using these on 10" wheels with Hilos you may have to cut 3/4" off the end of the centre threaded bolt of the old type Hilo with a circlip as it will bottom out on the cone spring face and the car will sit high, for extremely lowered cars the hilo face will also need machining a few mm.
