It’s a VERY long story but I’ve somewhat inherited a Mk1 mini restoration project.
I have been given a rolling shell (totally rust free, resprayed, brand new subframes) it is in mint condition. I’ve also been given pretty much all the parts to get it back on the road but when I say parts I mean totally dismantled - gudgeons out of pistons level of dismantlement.
I’ve got a bit of background in mechanics and know which end of spanner is which but this is a new level of challenge so I’m taking it slow and getting to grips with it as I go.
This evening I got the crank in and 2 out of the 4 pistons back into the block. The block has been bored +.020 and the pistons are “D top” units. I’m hoping someone can explain the history of these D top pistons as I’m not familiar with them, most replacements I’ve seen are flat top items…?
I’m sure I will be in need of further help / support as I go.
Cheers, Cammy

someone started a thread about an engine with D top pistons not that not long ago, might be a good starting point
https://www.theminif...ries-any-ideas/
from my minimal level of understanding it seems to be something to do with the head being from a larger CC engine (thus bigger valves and better flow, etc) and the D tops assist with compression without the need to skim
what head is it, do you know? also if you post the engine code I've no doubt at all someone here will tell you all about it, what they don't know on here isn't worth knowing
