Hi all.

having a little trouble identifying this engine number and gearbox. Can anyone help?

I was told it was a 1275GT.

Engine number is 12H687N-H****  This indicates a 1275 engine but what does the rest mean (The * is just the run number).

Box has, I think, 22C4832

Actually it isn’t mine, just one I was looking at buying. It’s not an import. It’s a 1275 gt 1973 year.

12h is a 1275 but I can’t find any mention of the 687 in relation to a 1275gt or anything else. My gt is 12H706 the 706 denotes negative earth, alternator, mechanical fuel pump and rod change box. Like Nick said Is it an import.

It doesn't appear to have originally been fitted to any of the Mini range, but for the most part, all the 1275's were very similar. With an overhaul, you can make it what ever specification you like, all the fundamental internals will be the same. It's only possible difference between pistons and valve sizes in the head that may be different between any of them.

A 12H 687 is a 1275 GT engine code - not that there is anything very special about a standard 1275 GT engine
