Wiper Toggle Switch Upside Down

I’m moving the wipers from the steering column to a centre switch panel to make the car look earlier. (Me and everyone else, apparently 😀)
All rewired and working fine but when I tried to mount the toggle switch in the centre panel, the D shape cut out is on the wrong side for the switch I have. If I mount it as is, UP will fast wipers and DOWN will be Off but that’s a bit mad
Have I bought the wrong switch? I know the correct Lucas one is meant to be 31780 but can’t see markings on mine. Did they really make left and right handed wiper switches for BMC cars and I’ve bought the wrong one?
As I say, I expect I have and it’s a hoary old elephant trap that many have fallen into before.
Thanks in anticipation

No Mini had 2 speed wipers through a rocker switch, it wouldn't have mattered on a single position switch. You could reposition all the crimped terminals in the connector bloke, but it might be easier to just take the switch apart & turn the rocker round.

possibly a stupid question why can't you just swap the wiring around
(unless switch disassembly really is an easy job I suppose)

IIRC the toggle switches have a flat on both sides? The switch would fit either way if the panel has a D shaped hole?
Failing that file the hole to a round hole so the switch fits the other way up?

Yes you can move the wires around
I'm wondering if we're slightly at crossed purposes. I'd assumed you were using Delta rocker switches, the same as on later Minis with wiper stalks. If you're using a rocker switch, with loose 1/4" spades, move the wires. There are plenty of Lucas wiper wiring diagrams online: they show the switch is never "off", rather supplied via the park switch.

I only have the single speed on mine and both the wiper switch and headlight switch were incorrectly fitted as down for off, so I flipped the switch panel round to fix it.

I had the same problem on my 68 Mini when I converted the wipers to two speed.
The switch used was the one used on MG's.
I filed the flat out of the hole and turned the sitch up the other way.
Works a treat.
