On the early heaters what holds the flap in the various position?
I took it all apart to fit a new matrix and now the flap just flaps around and doesnt sit securely in the screen, car or off positions.

If your taking about the type of heater that doesn't use a fresh air feed then I'm pretty sure the flap is a friction fit. But if yours is anything like mine then on flat out it demists about 30mm high patch of the screen at best and heats the cabin as well as a birthday cake candle. As I tend to drive mine in all weather's I'm changing the heater to a T7 design type.

Thanks, yeah friction fit was my guess rather than a spring or something.
I dont understand the notches on the heater front panel. Theres a horizontal flat bit to catch the flap control arm but it's at the top not the bottom. If it was at the bottom it would stop the arm and flap falling against gravity. But as it's at the top I dont understand its function. Maybe it's just there as the only means of the flap clicking into position, all a bit primitive.
