Yes and no. But generally if you have a set up the other part will fit. One used nuts the other bolts.

Early type are as shown in the Haynes manual, bolt on with collets, exactly the same as the Cooper S.
Late autos (pre pot joint) use knock on type hardy spicer flanges - they fit to a non Cooper S output shaft with a circlip exactly the same as a pot joint. They still use the larger diameter Cooper S/automatic side plates and bushes.
With the hardy spicer joint bolted up its impossible to tell if they're bolt on or knock on type.
2nd picture is bolt on type, all other pictures are knock on 'pot joint style'.
All use studs and nuts

Yes, only the side covers are not interchangeable, but the shafts and flanges etc are all the same. Also fitted to the 1969 - 1975 Mokes.

Hmm,,,, all the Auto's I've seen used studs and nuts, same a S. All out Autos were fully imported from the UK so would have been the same as whet you guys had. There was for a very short time though a 'conversion' the factory fitted that had Flanges on Pot Joint style Shafts, maybe they used bolts ? These were only in production a few months I believe.

Thanks chaps.
I knew in the back of my mind that something on some boxes was different somewhere, ( yes, it is bolt / circlip ).
Just hoped that it wasn't different output diff pinion splines.

The output splines/output shaft diameters are different between the bolt on and knock on HS flanges.
Bolt on is larger diameter.
