From the last post, ive had all issues. I bought a new speeduino fitted it, still didnt start, turned out i had the wrong crank sensor. So i changed that and it started! I had uploaded a 1.8 bmw 8v m43 engine map to it, and tried to drive the car. it didnt drive well, i had not set the injector sizes, or the engine CC, once that was set it ran a lot better.

its about 130 bhp still needs mapping properly, it pinks slightly at some revs, and is a bit rich at others. Now i need to look into the handling as its not right for that power. The GTi had front shocks, and i think my suspension fluid has air in it. So all stuff to be looked at, but main thing is its running.

ive been looking on ebay for months now for my wheel trims. the wheel trims on the R100 was 13" but also they did the same design on the rover 200/400 in 14". Ive mgf 14" wheels, so i was delighted when i got 4 for nearly as little as the postage!

 

 

 

 

the wheels dont look so big now, car looks more factory :)

not the best of updates but ! car is running but its missing mid range, its something to do with the speeduino and its map. when its running and you floor it the part of the map that does the "accelerator pump" isnt right. Its confusing the lambda, or at least taht is what im told atm. 

 

But today went to a car show at capesthorne hall.. it was good. 

 

 

 

 

I had the paint matched and got 1 ltr of base coat but it dosnt match!! going to take it back and see what they can do. 

 

goes like a rocket. Going to have to get the suspension units regassed with the nitrogen, guy on ebay does it so you cant tell for £120. Defo when the car is off the road the units are going to him.

With acceleration enrichment I find that richening the cells above the area it bogs usually cures it.Too much enrichment also causes bogs.Gasping and coughing into the intake is lean and falling down and burbling too rich.Technical terms eh?.If you have separate enrichment tables turn them off until you have got it tuned well using the fuel map.Add enrichment sparingly to fine tune.This is my amateur experience with Megasquirt and Omex tuning and may be absolute tosh.Enjoy,Steve..

thanks steve, the car went for its mot today and passed, no problem at all. 

 

there is so much more to the mapping as you say, there is the enrichment tables, and im my case, teh car was reading one then reading another one. one was about right and one was totally wronjg, so the gama enrichment was car off. and it didnt like that. 

 

 

I uploaded a m43 bmw map to it then changed it to suit the K series. now it goes really strongly in a straight line, but on light throttle stuff its really lumpy. 

 

that speeduino is well worth the money. Xtronics is the place in america, and i have loved learning so far. car works some, so i want to go out in it for a big trip soon!

So, i went for a drive in it to wales, i wanted to get some cider from rosies cider farm by the pondarosa. I stopped in Ruthin in the way and the clutch cable snapped! i drove all the way home to widnes and only had to stop 2 times! I had uploaded the m43 map again, changed it to suit the r100 then auto tuned it. i took out any acceleration enrichment, and let it do its stuff. I then put some back in and it drives ok, its not bad, but low down when you lift off, its wanting to power on then off by itself almost. Its something i will look at later on. 

 

I had also took a drive out to joderal bank

 

 

 

I had put that pic on facebook and got lots of abuse about it. The primer on the quarter needs sorting, and painting. 

 

So yesterday i decided to have a go at it. I refilled a few bits, and then put it in high build. It was only then i noticed a long dent in the quarter that goes into the door! SO today i filled it and painted the quarter

 

 

 

 

 

 

I got this far and nearly gave up at it was raining on and off, but i decided late in the afternoon to go for it.

 

 

 

 

 

i used 2k paint this time, ive had more luck painting that in the past and it worked out fairly well, slight orange peal but im sure i can sort that, but the main thing is the colour looks really good.

yes the 2k is really good. i hope i dont regret saying that as the car is in bits now ready for paint again lol

 

 

But first. 

 

 

 

this is the first panel ive been happy with on either the mini or the R100, dont get me wrong its not 100% but i flatted it, and polished it, and i can see i can get it quite easily with some time to where i want it to be. So atm, polishing is on hold for getting the car looking better and less rust [not that there is much!]

 

 

 

 

I have joinned a local car club, first trip out was to see a local steam powered ship, lad who is in the club is one of the guys who looks after the ship. On the way the car started misfiring and on the way home it was quite bad. The speeduino software tunerstudio wasnt showing any problem that i could see, so i worked out it was a loose wire. Fingers crossed its not sorted, was a fire that triggers a pair of injectors. 

 

 

This is, yesterday the club went to lakeland car museum, i missed it as of the missfire, but then im glad as ive found it and havnt spent ages trying to sort it. Some of these misfire problems can be very hard to find. I think ive been quite lucky so far with hard to find problems, and accidentally finding them. 

 

 

The weather is not so bad, and i have a week off, i have started on the sill

 

 

3 patches welded in, but i didnt take pics... sorry. Its in high build now, and will be painted hopefully tomorrow

 

 

 

 

 

the other one to repair is the door, one long scratch and 2 dints

 

 

 

 

 

 

To be fair, after filling the mini so many times, im not that bad actually at dents and repairs. so i am hoping i can sort the door out fairly easily.

 

 

Starting to really liek this car, but it needs power steering. maybe something for winter to sort, but the mini will wait again !!

when i put the first coat on the door, the air line connector was leaking a little bit and water came out onto the panel. I tried to wipe it off but you can see it, hopefully i got it all out and i can polish it some tomorrow. 

 

 

 

I didnt take any pics of the quarter panel, but i polished that too and its more than acceptable now ... really happy with that.

the car has had a slow frontal impact at some point on the o/s , all straightened and sorted but the grill had broken tabs , so i have bought another one in better condition

 

ill paint that and the mirror at the same time

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

also the inlet is off so i can get at the stat, its always ran hot, it had a 88 deg stat in it, now gone for the 82. maybe it was airlocked or something but its done maybe 200 miles like that. dotn know as of yet!

the rad was airlocked, i replaced teh stat with the old one from the 1100, its sat at the right temp, but the rubber o ring must be perished as its leaking everywhere. need to sort that but i have painted the sill and bonnet

i got a better bonnet ! i swapped it for a A+ rad that i bought in error. i stripped the bits off it and painted it

I left it for a few weeks, and painted it again today, i used a regulator on the gun, and removed my water trap regulator from the wall, and just put a water trap in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

looks really good, looks like i can just fit it and not polish it. 

 

 

the car drives really well flat out, but low end the mapping needs sorting. so after i fit the bonnet, ill take it for a spin with the laptop and tune it some more.

i have joined a local car club, pheonix car club, they meet at 3 different pubs locally on sundays, so having the car not working is not really good. So painting the wings etc has been on hold for now

it is bank holiday, no meeting this weekend so ive done some on the car

 

 

i have some regassed suspension units, these are not witht he valve on them, these are as factory. If you send yours to the guy they are £30 a unit, or i have paid £200 to get some so i can swap them and post them back for the £200 if mine are good.

I dont know if you can see it in the pic but i have a front anti roll bar too, but i need to cast some rubber mounts for it, the ones from powerflex are like £40, and i can make them for pennies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

One thing with the car is the steering is heavy, and parking it by the gate can be hard work, especially as the wheels are further out with them being from a mgf. So i am looking into power steering from a mgf.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have had the parts machined to weld up to make it all R100 steering wheel and storks, my mate Mike Storra [yes if you are into rallying the same one!!!] did it for me. ive welded up the standard mount to the shell with a brace, made a bracket to mount hte unit, but im still worried the torque of it will cause problems. The unit is mounted to the shell, and it turns as turnt he wheel to make the force, before all the force was from you to the rack. 

 

I have 2 units and only today i reolised that they are different, i need to get another unit and take that apart now and finish the job off.

Ive mixed some waxoil with 20/50 oil, hoping the wax oil will cling and the 20/50 will creap

 

 

 

 

 

 

I cant beleive the damage the salty roads have done to the car over winter, its not bad but its all over the car, so ill give it a quick clean and spray it all with this. It seems to do the job, its clinging to the metal really well...

now thinking of it, i put the car in the driveway then i put a cover over it, im wondering if the cover is keeping the ground under the car wet, and thats why its accelerated into corrosion under the car. I painted it with the waxoil and oil combo today, its made a massive difference, looks really wet. Im hoping if i do this every year now itll keep the car in good condition. I had soaked the front inner wings yesterday, and had left the car uncovered, water was just in blobs on it, and just blew off. 

 

wing back on, and went for a test drive. I got to turn 2 from out house and say a beige comma van comming out the petrol station.. ;) Driver didnt see though! Anyway trip out revieled the only differnce to the ride is it wheel spins more in the wet, it feels slightly different, but not that id know. Either way, its a few jobs done now.
