I have a gearbox that I cannot identify from what car and year it is from. It would be welcome it somebody could help me sort it out.

- Casing number says DAM5620 (I do know that DAM5626 is considered as the most sustainable in high output application, but what differs 5620 vs 5620?)

- Casting stamp saying "88"

- 28 teeth "economy" broach gear

- Double groves in the top of the teeth on internal gears

It'll actually be a DAM5626, just the casting on some it looks like a 0 instead of a 6.

Sounds like a fairly commonish late gearbox as fitted under 998's and some 1275's, Minis and Metros.

Thank you Spider for a quick answer. I can count the teeth on each gear to work out the ratios next time I am the garage. Since I am a bit eager to know, it would be nice if somebody can clarify if the internal gear ratios differ when broach gear with 28 teeth (economy) is used?

If you go this this thread;-

Post #12 I put up a 'cheat sheet'. For your gearset, if you follow the Red Numbers, that will give you the gear ratios through the gears.

In regards to your Drop Gears, if your Primary Gear has no markings on the teeth, then the ratio of them is 1:1.0357.

If you take each gear ratio and multiply that by 1.0357 you'll have your overall gearing to the final drive.
