Hello

I’m cleaning up the engine and gearbox case for painting and rebuilding.
the gearbox case seems to have been painted in the past.
my question is, was the gearbox painted when new?

For reference, it’s a 1967 build morris mk1

thanks

Yes, just about everything would originally have been painted green including the gearbox and clutch housing.

This video shows automatic mini engines but the same principle applies to the painting - skip forward to about 11:00

They pretty much painted the whole thing, fan belt included

Aha! Thanks both.
There’s not much left on it after 27 years on the road and the same sat in a corner of a lockup.
The liberal application in the video explains why there’s paint on the old universal joint couplings.
Now I have dilemma; I want to try take the car back to original spec, but I have personal dislike of paint on the gearbox case. Ironically because of people typically slapping paint on all over the place.
