Hello,

I have a 2000 Mini Mpi Sport, I am facing a few problems either due to a faulty gauge or the oil temperature is excessive 120c -170c and as a precaution I ordered a oil cooler due to the car currently being driven in 30c weather with 4 spot lamps upfront.

Few questions pertaining to the above, I switched the oil from 10w40 to 20w50 and have not noticed anything to the car's overall temperature as it stays halfway with the fans kicking on or a nudge above that if I am pushing it hard. My biggest issue is with the oil temperature as it is boiling my blood.

Where can I find an original new gauge ? I got what seems either a pre 99 (YAD100720with the same look however the bulb opening in the rear is different and I cannot seem to get it to illuminate in the same context to the other gauges. My original gauge is YAD100940 for oil temp.

Does anyone have a link to a Mini Oil Cooler install on a 97+ mpi as I need a pictorial or instructions to have a general idea of it.

Thanking you in advance,

Sounds a replacement sensor has been fitted that is the wrong calibration for the gauge fitted. I have a 2000, had same issues with a minispares sender.

Found the same thread sender but from a mgf with correct gauage calibration (they vary from max 120,150, 170)? all now as designed. I’d start there first, on a hard motorway run on a summers day you’d probably hit 120 oil, but not today.

Also, 20w50 is the way to go, 10w40 is not for an A series Mini, Rover cost cutting standardising oil range.

Hello,

Would you happen to have the part number for the new oil temp sensor from the Mgf ? I would truly appreciate that thank you

The minispares one linked is a water temp sender and has the wrong resistance curve (as I found out) believe it’s 120 max not 170.

I’ll have a look, will be on an ebay invoice somewhere for the mgf part number
