Hi, and apologies if this is elsewhere but all I can find are posts about this disc setup and that disc setup. I have a 79 saloon. It's an 850. I don't need discs. It currently has 12inch wheels. Question: Can I simply replace these with 10inch wheels? Just plain steel wheels, I'm not interested in anything fancy. So, 10inch steel wheels on '79 drums?

Yes, all 10" wheels will fit over drums. There may be a chance you'll need spaced drums on the back as they may hit the shocks.

Yes, that will work. The original Mini came with drums and 10" steelies on the market.

Be careful not to have the Cooper S steelies, as they have a different offset and may touch the body.

The Reverse rims (LP918?) are OK tough, as they were designed for Cooper models.

All 1979 Minis with drum brakes came with 10" wheels from the factory. At that time only the 1275GT had disc brakes and 12" wheels.

See 1980 Mini Brochure here:-

(Cooper S and early 1275GT had smaller disc brakes which fit 10" wheels).

You must get wheels with the correct datum offset.
Cooper 'S' wheels will not fit.

And some tyre brands can rub at the rear, they must baloon out more than others.

You will always be ok with a 145x10 tyre, which is all you need on a drum-braked Mini.
