I have a 1.1 8v spi engine, im looking at putting a small turbo to it as its not very powerful. This is for my Rover 111 and there is a build thread in other projects area on this forum.

 

 

I was thinking of using a mpi inlet, a small turbo, and maybe use the speeduino seafox i have to control it. 

 

I could fit a 1.4 16v to it, but i know the 1.1 and its in the hole now. i think the 1.1 turbo will make more torque then the 1.4 and drive a lot better.

 

Has anyone done anything like this to a 1.1 before on here? There is a guy who has done it to a 1.1 spi on teh metro discussion pages on facebook, but i thought id ask on here.

When you say MPi inlet, you mean from a K series, right? As the Mini Mpi inlet manifold wont fit (just wanted to clarify as we're cross pollinating engines here).

 

The K8 is usually a 9.5:1 compression ratio, and on a good aftermarket ECU, a low boost application would be easily controlled. It's making sure the inlet side is adapted for blow through, rather than suck through.

the 1.1 turbos will probably be decent.

there was a guy over on the 16v mini forum that used to run a turbod 1.4 GTI motor and it was an absolute animal. basically a std motor with very few mods and he was putting nearly 30psi into it with water and methanol injection and getting close to 300hp, managed an 11.8 second quarter.
well worth a look for the build thread as theres probably a load of useful info for k series conversons.

yes the 1.1 did come with a kseries multi point injection, mine didnt but if i go to speed uino then its easier i think, and also the pipe onto the injection is smaller than over the spi unit.

 

 

I tihnk itll give good low down power, and its a little nod to the old metro turbo engine A series. 

 

any idea of what turbo to use?

up to about 140hp id say GT15, more than that a GT17

yes thanks, i  think  the gt15 is the one for me! and my speeduino there is code to runt he k series flywheel!
