No point going that thin really, they're very cheap to replace.

Is there even as much as 3 mm on them when new ?
1.5 would be quite an OK change point.

Thanks all for the information. I had a spare set of brake shoes and it was time for the annual winter maintenance checks anyway, so I went ahead and changed them. i could have left them installed as there was plenty of material left. The newer type springs were really stout and were a bugger to get off. Had to use a pry bar on the upper.
Which brings up a question, isn't about 70% of each of the rear mini brake shoe in contact with the surface of the drum? I mean to say, looking at the installation, they are pushed outward by the brake cylinder and more or less 'pivot' around the adjuster end?

Also make sure the shoes are the right way round, I've just stripped a set of rear drums with incorrectly oriented shoes, it's not unusual.
