Hi...I have fitted the Mini Spares Red Spot front cones to my Clubman on 10" rims with Hi-Lo's. I have the Hi-Lo's as low as they will go but the car still sits way to high for my liking. Its a full restoration, but the engine is back in and I have left it to settle for a couple of weeks (not driven yet though).

I know that the Red Spot sit higher but I thought I would have more range of adjustment. Is this a known/common issue?

Does anyone have any idea of how much higher the Red Spot sit vs a pair of new standard cones?

Perhaps I am best off just getting a pair of standards fronts which is what I have gone with on the rear.

Thank you

Just found this....so I think I know where I need to turn next....

"If using these on 10" wheels with Hilos cut 3/4" off the end of the centre threaded bolt of the old type Hilo with a circlip as it will bottom out on the cone spring face and the car will sit high, for extremely lowered cars the hilo face will also need machining a few mm."

Yes they were developed for rally Mini that needed a height ride height.

We always machine 10 mm off the face and remove the same from the threaded rod otherwise they're a Hi-Hi set !!
It makes the whole job easier and less 'tight' for space

Do you remove 10mm from where the hi lo seats on the rubber? Or the end of the hi lo where the hi lo locking nut tightens onto the hi lo unit?

It seems that taking 10mm from where the hi lo seats on the rubber donut would leave next to no thickness on the remaining seat.

Thanks

If red spots are higher are yellow spots lower?

I shortened the rubber cone by turning on a lathe around 8mm from the top ring that locates in the subframe. I read somewhere that it was a modification that Downton used to carry out in the 60's.

5mm from the steel rim on the top of the donut. 10mm from the aluminium hi-lo and 2mm from the locking nut = 17mm. 3:1 ratio = 51mm lower.

Much better.

Thanks all for the advice.
