I’m restoring a 1986 mini city e that I bought already stripped down. The wiring loom was virtually destroyed so I bought a new mini spares one (Ham4626) which I believe is the correct loom form the car as all the features match mine except the starter.  It is designed for a pre engaged starter but I know the starter that came with the car is an inertia one. The clutch in the car is a pre VERTO one which I didn’t think they did for that year. It came with a brand new clutch kit which I’m about to install.

Is there a way to wire a pre inertia starter into the new loom that is designed for a pre engaged starter? Or is there other starters that I can fit without changing the flywheel and clutch type?

Your pre engaged loom will have all that's required for an inertia starter. You will need a seperate starter solenoid and if you have a balast resistor coil feed you'll need a solenoid with an output for that. You'll also need a thick feed cable to run from the solenoid to the starter.
