Test fitting the 998 engine into my 1978 Saloon and the Header and Intake manifold do not fit. Could use some work arounds if there is one. I received the car with 10 boxes of parts. It came with the original car and manifold and also a pair of HS 2 carbs and header. When I test fit the header and HS 2 manifold, the intake manifold will not attach to the head as the left header is in the way. Have not idea of the part number of the header (also brand) and the intake manifold is a 12G489 which I can find no reference material on it. So a bit blind here.

I think that inlet is for an in-line engine so you would also have issues with the carbs not clearing the bulkhead.

the exhaust manifolds tend to fit fine with any carb. But that one may be a custom solution for a specific set up.

It’s a 20 degree manifold off something like a AH Sprite or MG Midget. A mini uses a 30 degree manifold and matching float bowls on the carbs to bring them up a bit higher to miss the bulkhead as Nick says

I’d get the proper mini inlet manifold and make sure the fuel bowls are the right angle

I’m not sure if that alone will solve your problem as the exhaust manifold does look like it’ll be tight for clearance there. What diameter are the runners on the exhaust manifold pipes?

The Runner OD is 1 1/2". I have researched Midget and Sprite In. manifolds and couldn't find anything on this stamping. One of the concerns I have in looking at Classic Mini Intake manifolds is the casting looks very similar in appearance although it has the 30 deg. versus 20 with what I have. Not sure if the 30 deg will still be blocked out by the exhaust manifold.

But the 20 you can’t use anyway. If you still can’t use that header after getting the correct inlet you will have to change it if you are going to use twin carbs.

True. Have a guy at the end of the thinks he has the manifold, and he is not that far away. Thanks

Exhaust manifold is probably designed to be used with a weber intake manifold.

Fantastic. Just another part that came with the vehicle that I can't use.
