Wiper Motor Wont Spin After Rebuild

Best Answer Ethel , 24 January 2023 - 10:28 AM

Could just be stalled. Is it attached to the wiper rack?

I think I'd strip it back and test it as I built it up.

Starting with just the worm gear out of the motor & no park switch

Blue is -ve

Red is low speed

Yellow is fast

Changing over to the heavy duty wipers and decided to give to replace the wiper boxes and give the motor a rebuild while I was at it.

Took the whole thing apart, cleaned it all up and gave it a good regrease, but now that its back together the wiper motor wont turn at all when powered on. What do I do to troubleshoot this?

I've made sure the housing for the motor (the one with the magnets) is on with the little line pointed to the arrow on the main motor frame. The motor brushes were not renewed but they seem to be okay by the looks of it.

Also the red wire gets pretty warm when i try to run the motor.

Any advice oh how best to troubleshoot this?

Thanks Ethel! Turns out one of the brushes fell out of the socket during reinstallation. It spins freely now :)

On a second note, how about the wiper park switch?

My car didn't come with one. It has just the red, yellow and blue wires for 2 speed motors.

I tried referencing https://www.theminif...er-park-switch/

for the wiring but i'm still confused. I got the park switch along with the loom from minispares. which has 5 wires.

Black, Green, Blue-Green, Brown-Green, Red Green.

I know that Black is -ve and Green is +ve. But what about the Other 3? What do I connect those to?

Red green is low speed & blue green is fast.

The green is for the park and feeds up to the stalk via the the brown green. In the off position it's connected to the low speed. Putting the stalk on low speed connects the low speed to a different ignition live that bypasses the park switch.

If the park switch plug is wired correctly you just need to get the wires in to the actual motor in the right places. If one spade is vertical and the other 2 horizontal - the vertical is the earth (blue) & the nearest horizontal to it is high speed (yellow).

hmm after your explanation I finally understand the diagram in the other post. Though my car doesn’t seem to be wired with the brown green. perhaps it was removed when the wiring was overhauled a while back. i have just the red and yellow that go from the stalk to the wiper motor. I guess theres no way round this other than to pull a new wire from the stalk into the engine bay?

All the the colours should be present in the wires in the "tail" of the stalk

The red, yellow & blue are the short wires  that go in to the motor itself. They attach to spades on one side of the park switch & the loom's multiplug goes in to the opposite side.

thanks Ethel! Had to pull a new wire from the steering for the Green-Brown one, but everything works just fine now!
