Hi all. I fancied a drop-down plate for my mk3 so got an old mk1 boot which I'd read is a straight swap. Checked it for size. Bingo. Then filled/painted it. BUT, when going to fit, I realised I hadn't checked the hinges at the time and they're about 3/4" different. 😭😭
So, looks like I'll have to drill new holes in the boot or rear panel. Rear panel may be easier. Any thoughts please?

Should be a straight swap.
Went from mk3 to mk1 boot on my 72 mk3 with no issues.

As said should be a straight swap unless something has been changed to non-standard on bootlid or your Mini....photos would help.

Also measure the fixing hole centres, probably easier than trying to tell by looking at a picture

I currently have no boot lid fitted so can easily offer comparison if required

So here are the pics. The angles aren't great because I didn't have a helper yo offer up the lid to the rear end but there is clearly a 3/4" discrepancy

I may well be a complete idiot. First thing in the morning I'll change them over although I looked for offset on them and didnt see any. But I do only have one eye...

The hinges are labeled RH and LH if you look at the casting on the back of the hinges.

They do look the wrong way round in the pictures but I'm not sure that swapping them will make enough difference though especially assuming that the hinges are still fitted as they were with the old bootlid?

Having them wrong tends to just cause minor alignment issues and slight binding when opening and closing

Might be worth doing some measuring up

Mark a centre line on the hinge panel and measure out to the hinge mounting holes and report here with them so one of us can compare

do the same with the bootlid too

Cheers

Ben

Ah. Mea Culpa. Swapped the hinges over and bingo! At first sight I couldn't see any difference at all between them but clearly marked on the reverse. Many thanks for everyone's help.
