I have the centre binnacle type speedo and modified the wiring so that the left and right orange warning lamps light up with the respective indicators.

nowI was thinking of using the green one at the top as a warning lamp for either the brake fluid level or fuel level. Though I don’t want green for this. Any suggestions on how I might go about changing the green lens to red or orange?

I did stumble across replacement crystal lens somewhere once, but can’t recall from where, but they were available. What are you using for oil pressure warning?

thanks! It's a little on the pricey side, so I'd have to think about it. but do you know how I'd go about removing the existing lens from my speedo?

Mmm please check your local road use regulations. The colour and action of these telltales are actually regulated.

sure.

with the speedo unit on the bench, fold back the tabs securing the chrome rim and remove it from the body.

with the unit face down on the bench undo the two screws either side of the speedo drive (shown above) and lift away the housing

the lamp jewels are held in place by sprung washers - with a pair of thin screwdrivers the washers can be 'walked' off the posts.  this needs to be done carefully to avoid snapping the plastic

Easiest is to get an old, broken speedo unit from ebay or the forums and take it apart to liberate the lenses you want.
I put a green lens on either side for the left & right indicators and an orange lens at the top.

That's not a bad idea, it wouldn't have to be Mini. I did think of the panel mount warning lights, but you'd be unlikely to get a good match, even if you managed to cut one down with something like a spot weld drill.

agree with GraemeC easier to get an old unit off flea/bbay and utilise it, Altho looking at f/b now they are silly prices, u will be able to pick em up at a show for less than that, or someone on here will have have one.
