I'm looking at purchasing a 1968 mini. It has a heritage certificate and the original bill of sale. The numbers match but the dealership details on the certificate are completely different to those on the bill of sale. I can understand historical records of chassis and engine numbers being mixed up but has anyone come across dealer details being wrong?

they're two different things; dealership details shows where the completed cars were shipped to, the bill of sale shows the details of where the car was sold.

i would have thought it fairly common for stock to move between dealerships

edit : what does the registration match - dealership or bill of sale ?

Try contacting the local council archives. I did this for my 66 SDL. They emailed me a copy of their entry of details of first taxation/registration. Date of first registration, registration number and name of dealer who registered it. Not a lot but it does tie up the documentation.

Thank you both, that's helpful. I didn't appreciate the main dealer, not necessarily the local dealer, was recorded on the heritage certificate.
