I'm looking to change my ignition system (currently 123+ tooth) so that I can fit an intercooler where the dizzy sits.
Trigger wheels has a Megajolt kit, this would be a very tried and tested route though it's obviously getting a bit dated now.
There's Canems ignition only which won't cost much more but I've not heard much about it.
Polestar, this would be more expensive but has the option to go fuel injection in the future.
Other options would be a speeduino based one from diy-efi this would be similar price to the ignition only systems but again I could go fuel injection down the line.
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on these or other options available.
Cheers.

Really depends how tech savi you are.

Or your local tuning company maybe able to guide you and what explain what they use..

As always..Homework time...

does it already have a blower?

Just thinking that there are other ways to fit an intercooler. Fancier ignition does offer other advantages though. Megajolt would be up to the job, but as you say, it's a bit dated - getting a replacement edis would be my biggest concern. If you can go one of the other routes for the same money I think that'd sway it for me. You'll need a crank sensor in any case, but some may allow you to pinch the SPI/MPI's. Could be even harder to source than a spare edis module  O_O

I have one of their generic trigger wheels on a machined damper & had to do some fettling of the rngine mounting bracket to  get  enough clearance for fitting a fan belt. I expect the bolt on version needs more.

If you're going ignition only, megajolt is more than fine - you don't need a high resolution map.

I've gone for the canems ignition only system. i found it very straightforward to install, setup and get the engine running, but haven't had an opportunity to get it mapped and get any proper use out of it.

As bpirie1000 says though, worth checking what products your preferred tuning shop/rolling road operators are familiar with as it'll save time on the rollers (..which isn't cheap)

one other ignition only system is the Motorsport Electronics Nodiz Pro Gen-X

This is for a freshly built 1293 turbo (GT1752), I've had it running without an intercooler just to bed in the cam and check for leaks etc. but I want to have an intercooler ready to run in and hit a rolling road in the spring.

Good to hear from someone who has Canems it looks fairly similar to Megajolt but without the edis.
I had looked at Nodiz but I've seen a few people complaining that they've had issues with it.

I'm one of them, but that was using the previous generation of the Nodiz pro

I posted similar on a thread on TurboMinis the other day.

I have Megajolt at the moment mostly because it was relatively cheap and has such good support (i.e. example maps) that I could get the car running well from the get-go.

But it has limitations. I really want more inputs and outputs, and ideally the ability to run a dash and programmable buttons (i.e. CAN accessories) - for that I need a more advanced system. I will be looking at either a basic Haltech or Speeduino in the next couple of years, partly for those features but I also want to look at running an injection setup, too.

But back to today. Megajolt is good enough for simple ignition-only engine management. There is that nagging worry about EDIS kit, but you can manage that by just grabbing a couple of spares when they appear cheaply enough.

Just an aside - I've not looked at the CANEMs system before, but a quick read of the manual suggests it's a little more advanced than Megajolt but lacks one of the key features for me - an 'aux' input, which I use to datalog the output from my AFR sensor.

Programmable ignition will be a better addition than the intercooler, if it's a road car.

Yeah it's not a question of one or the other, I already have a programmable distributor but would like to change to a system without a distributor because it's taking up prime space in front of the grill that could be used for an intercooler.
Cheers for all the comments, Icey I had a look at your post on turbo mini too. Still finding myself going round in circles with this but might just go Megajolt as its a safe bet and should be fairly straight forward.
